Tyrus Thompson is one of a formidable duo of tackles that currently play for the Sooners.  Thompson mans the left side where Darryl Williams is on the right side of this offensive line.

Strengths:

Thompson has a natural balance in space and stays in a natural base position most of the time.  He is very good at staying patient and not overextending himself.  He is a strong run blocker, not quite classified as a mauler but can open lanes when needed.  At 6’5″ and 336 he has the size to play tackle at the next level.

Weaknesses:

Does not have dominant strength normally needed to play the Left Tackle position at the next level. Falls victim to the bull rush too easily and once he is beat, he does not possess the strength to recover. Penalties have also been a concern with late hands, in which he gets caught holding and mental errors with false starts.  Has the stage this season to prove he is a consistent pass blocker, which he failed to show last season.

Draft Prognosis:

With the above concerns, Thompson will most likely fall to the 4th or 5th rounds, but with good coaching and development, he could turn into a serviceable right tackle at the next level. It remains to be seen if he has the drive and motivation to proves scouts he can play in this league.
