Chris Covington of Rice University stands at 6’3″ and weighs in at 300 pounds.  He mans the Defensive Tackle position for the Owls and is a difficult man to block on a play to play basis. In the video below, Covington as a redshirt Sophomore and he is facing up against UAB.

Strengths:

Covington has good size and quickness off the ball. He engages and sheds tackles and has the sideline to sideline speed to force backs to bounce thier runs to the outside.  Covington is not easily moved off of his spot.  His frame still has the ability to add more bulk.  He also is a sure handed tackler, can get in passing lanes when he is stopped on a pass rush and understands stunts and plays.

Weakness:

Covington has a reputation for being very aggressive, but that can be used against him.  At the next level he will have to learn to harness that agressiveness.  He also can get handled easily by blockers that maul thier oppponents.  Also at the Conference USA level, his offensive line opponenets are not top level and when he has the opportunity to face stiffer competition he sometimes dissapears.

Draft Prognosis:

This season Covington has tallied 20 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks and 1 batted pass. Covington has the potential to move up if he can impress at the all star games, but he could also return for his Redshirt Senior season.  At the moment he is a 3rd to 5th round selection
