Marcus Murphy, a senior offensive weapon for that Missouri Tigers can not be classified at just one position. The kid is all over the field and does anything that the coaches ask him to do.
Strengths:
His vision is something that jumps right off the tape, he makes moves to places that most people don’t even see. He is also a good receiver, with soft hands and even though he isn’t very tall he can get up for the football. He has a very quick burst and the speed to separate. With a low center of gravity and great balance and agility he is surprisingly hard to bring down. He is a weapon on both kick and punt returner. This season he ranks in the top 10 in both categories in the nation. Averages 32.9 yards on kick returns and 14.3 yards on punts and has scored touchdowns on both this season.
Weaknesses:
At only 5’9″ and 195 pounds, he would have to be used as spot weapon at the next level. He also missed the 2011 season with a shoulder injury, which could reoccur at the next level. Durability is a concern and the lack of being able to be an every down back or receiver may turn some teams away.
Draft Prognosis:
This season Murphy has been a weapon all over the field with 519 rushing yards, 120 receiving yards, 272 punt return yards, and 362 kick return yards. He has scored one rushing touchdown, one receiving, one punt return and two kick return touchdowns this season. NFL teams are always looking for a weapon on special teams that can contribute on offense as well and Marcus Murphy could be that guy. I have tabbed as a 6th or 7th round pick, primarily due to his niche he will have to carve into an offense.
